Become a Texas Transportation Museum volunteer !
TTM volunteers celebrating our 50th anniversary in 2014

The Texas Transportation Museum was founded by volunteers way back in 1964. People back then could see all the changes going on with transportation especially with the decline of passenger railroads and were keen that San Antonio should not lose such a valuable part of its heritage even as the city rushed enthusiastically into the future. In the 50 years and more that have passed, TTM has been extremely fortunate in being able to attract new generations of volunteers to keep the huge organization going. We are a diverse group of individuals. We all have different areas of interest and bring our own unique skills to the museum, all with the aim of celebrating the vital role that transportation developments have brought to the amazingly rich and diverse city of San Antonio.
All kinds of volunteers needed !

TTM welcomes every kind of volunteer from every age group. We have folks who like to operate and maintain our full sized railroad equipment and tracks. We have indoor and outdoor model railroads who run our large and small "G," "HO," "N" and "O" gauge layouts. We have folks who like to set up and improve our exhibit displays and to make sure the museum is always looking at its best. We have automobile enthusiasts who maintain and rive our historic vehicles around the property, in parades and other events, even including being in adverts and movies. We have folks who act as docents, being available to describe different parts of the museum to visitors young and old. We have folks who come out during the week to help with school groups. We also have people who help sell tickets, answer the phone and help to keep our facilities clean. Yard work, too, is the responsibility of volunteers and we sure have a lot of grass and edges to keep looking at their best! We need folks who can paint, do carpentry, electrical work and even plumbing. The list goes on and on. Our need never goes away for volunteers who are willing and able to help out and make a difference.
Please join us !
If you are interested in becoming a volunteers at TTM, please contact us or, even better, swing by and chat with existing members. Please don't think you have to be an expert already. If you want to get started as a model railroader, you won't find better people in San Antonio to teach you how to do it. If you like old cars and want to either drive or work on them, we'll show you how it's done. If you want to help people understand a little more about transportation developments have impacted San Antonio, or tell them about how travel used to be, we'd love to provide a place for you to share your enthusiasm. if you want more information before doing that, please use the "CONTACT US" tab above and we will try to answer any questions you may have either by e-mail or telephone. We are very much aware that there are any number of worthy institutions which folks can join and contribute their time and effort but there is no place in the huge city of San Antonio where each unique individual can make such a difference.
